AMAZON PRIME GHOST DELIVERY NOTIFICATION
Amazon Prime Misdelivery? Or was it….
Hardly a day goes by that I do not log into my Amazon Prime account to either place an order or to research prices. I turn to Amazon Prime for everyday items to gifts and special purchases,. For $99/year I get free 2-day shipping and free video/music streaming, I use everything they offer.
I recently purchased an item and received an update from Amazon letting me know that my package was delayed and thus would not receive it by the promised time. Since we are in the business of auditing UPS and FedEx packages, if I had paid the carriers directly for that package I know I would get my money back. Each package a shipper sends is guaranteed to arrive on time or it’s free, UPS and FedEx will refund the shipping charges if requested (including Ground packages).
What happens when an Amazon Prime package is late? With Prime the shipping is free, well free in the terms that we pay $99/year to have all packages arrive in 2 days. So I decided to contact Amazon and inquire about a possible solution. After climbing through my purchase history to a contact form, I sent the following message directly to Amazon customer service:
Within 2 hours I received a response back from customer service! They confirmed the package was dispatched from their location on time and contacted USPS to have the package delivered as soon as possible. The customer service agent stated that if the package was not delivered within the next 2 days to contact them again to obtain a full refund for the item. The escalation must have made a difference, the package was then delivered later that day by USPS after the normal mail was delivered.
Not only did they respond to the situation by having the package delivered that day, they also provided some compensation. As a gesture of goodwill they extended my Amazon Prime subscription by one month as well as provided me with a promotional certificate of $5.00 to my account! They know how much shipping and transportation impact a customer’s overall experience.
Amazon Prime is a great service with great customer support. Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. It understandable how they will continue gaining market share and be a force in e-commerce for many, many years to come. In the first quarter of 2016 net sales increased 28% to $29.1 billion . Amazon has about 10,000 full-time employees and nearly 66,000 charitable organizations that Amazon customers can support in Texas alone.
